Moxie Chic Launches Design Contest to Benefit Equality Now in Honor of International Women’s Day

The NYC-Based Girl Power Brand is Hosting a Design Contest for Artists 5-30

January 27,  2021 - New York, NY - In an effort to inspire, empower and motivate females all around the country, Moxie Chic, an NYC-based feminist apparel brand that promotes empowerment for women and girls of all ages has announced a design competition for artists ages 5 - 30 in observance of International Women’s Day (IWD). The contest will launch on February 8 and conclude on March 8.

Artists and graphic designers between 5 and 30 years of age are invited to participate by submitting original artwork/designs consistent with this year’s IWD theme, #ChooseToChallenge, reflecting gender issues they want to challenge and change (e.g., depicting the issues they are passionate about or honoring another by showing how she's made challenges and forged change for others). The design contest will begin at 12:00 AM on Monday, February 8 and will run for 30 days, closing at 11:59 PM on March 8, International Women’s Day, and will be judged by Moxie Chic personnel, with a winner being chosen on or before March 22, 2021.  The winning design will be transitioned into a tee-shirt that will be for sale on Moxie-Chic.com, with all profits from the sale of the winning shirt being donated to Equality Now, an international non-profit organization focused on using the law to apply a human rights ethos to protecting and lifting up women and girls, through May 1, 2021. The winning artist will also be featured on Moxie Chic’s website homepage and on the brand’s social media pages.

Established in 1911, International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. This day is celebrated worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality.

“Here at Moxie Chic, we celebrate the achievements of women 365 days a year.” said Jennifer Shurdut-Bab, Founder of Moxie Chic. “International Women’s Day is just another opportunity to raise awareness for gender equality and positive feminism on a worldwide scale. Through our Young Artist Design Contests, we urge women and girls everywhere to push themselves creatively for a good cause.”

Many of Moxie Chic’s apparel designs include depictions and references to notable women in history, all of whom worked hard to better lives and strengthen communities, including Marie Curie, Harriet Tubman, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and even “Rosie the Riveter.” Moxie Chic recognizes that more than half of today’s essential workers are women and, as such, recognizes, celebrates and supports their heroic efforts.

*Contest submissions will be judged at the discretion of Moxie Chic personnel. Moxie Chic reserves the right to disqualify any designs that do not meet the submission criteria, available in the contest’s rules on www.moxie-chic.com

About Equality Now

Equality Now is the only international non-profit organization who uses the law to protect and promote the rights of women and girls.

Since 1992, Equality Now’s international network of lawyers, activists and supporters have held governments responsible for ending legal inequality, violence and harmful practices against women. In 2019, Equality Now was awarded the International Gender Equality Prize.  Equality Now is working towards a world where every woman and girl knows her rights; survivors of violence are able to voice their concerns without fear and access support; and justice systems work in favor of women and girls, not against them.  In 2021, Equality Now is focused more than ever on ensuring that more women and girls live safe, fearless, and free.
