Art Contest Winners Announced!

by Jennifer Bab on November 24, 2020

CONGRATULATIONS Lyla and Sydney

As many of you know, Moxie Chic launched its VERY FIRST contest in October 2020, asking girls (ages 6-16) to create a design of what feminism means to them.  We received many terrific submissions from around the country, a testament to the incredibly talented girls out there.  It was such a tough decision, that we chose TWO winners.

We are celebrating them here and letting you know that their designs will be included as part of our Holiday Donation Tee Collection, with all profits donated to Girls Inc.

Lyla --a thoughtful, talented and bold third grader from Watchung, NJ. When asked who she thinks has moxie -- she responded RBG (one of our faves!). Lyla -- in her own words -- told us that RBG had moxie because "she believed in her dreams, didn't give up and fought for girls' rights for a long time!"  We agree and also think Lyla has Moxie. Lyla describes the messaging behind her design, telling us that this girl is "super" proud as she just climbed the tallest mountain "in the universe" and "conquered it."

Sydney -- a thoughtful and bold 11th grader from Jericho, NY is our other very talented winner, and she agrees that RBG has moxie.  In fact, her design IS the late, great RBG -- a symbol of feminism for all of us to admire. Another role model with moxie inspiring Sydney is her grandma, a first generation American, a single mother of three, a teacher and pianist (go grandma!)

We are so incredibly proud of Lyla and Sydney, as we are of all girls who submitted designs.  It takes a lot of courage to create and share work and all girls who submitted deserve kudos for stepping up and sending in.

We hope everyone had fun with this (we certainly did!), and we encourage all participants to continue to @VoiceYourMoxie.  We are looking forward to future contests where when we can continue to celebrate YOU!
